To the homeland, which is Heartland

This month, we took the Bighorn back to its birthplace in Elkhart, Indiana (Happy birthday to me!), where the good folks at Heartland very generously offered to repair the forward welding/framing that had failed on our November excursion.

Of course we took the opportunity to tour the factory, to see how they build ’em from the chassis up, and from the inside out. Fascinating!

On the positive side for our traveling convenience, but on the negative side for our bank account, there was a shop called Dually Depot right next to Heartland HQ. And that was how we left Indiana with an auxiliary diesel tank installed in the bed of the BFT — and made it all the way back to San Antonio without needing to stop to refuel.
